The round-table “The role of cognitive science in the intellectual dialogue: research traditions and innovations” was held at the RSUH

The round-table “The role of cognitive science in the intellectual dialogue: research traditions and innovations” took place on December 3-4, 2019 at the Russian State University for the Humanities within the framework of the “Humanitarian Forum: from knowledge to action” organized by the Institute of World History – the Russian Academy of Sciences, the State Hermitage Museum and the National Research Centre “Kurchatov Institute”. It gathered over 25 participants from 6 countries.

The round-table addressed the following issues:

- integration challenge in cognitive science: convergence of the natural sciences and the humanities;
- transfer of knowledge in the cognitive cycle sciences: interdisciplinarity/multidisciplinarity/transdisciplinarity;
- the role of cognitive linguistics in multidisciplinary cognitive research;
- the development of a common frame of natural and artificial intelligence;
- the role of cognitive sciences in addressing the challenges of the 21st century.

The conference was opened by the welcoming speeches of Alexander Bezborodov, Rector of RSUH, Alexander Chubarjan, scientific director of the Institute of World History (Russian Academy of Sciences), Olga Pavlenko, the first vice-rector – vice-rector for research (RSUH) and Vera Zabotkina, vice-rector for international cooperation of RSUH and director of the Center for cognitive programs and technologies.

Dr. Zabotkina gave a talk on “Cognition, language, creativity: threats and opportunities”. The list of Russian speakers also included such eminent scholars as Dr. Yurii Zinchenko, President of the Russian Academy of Education, Dr. Andrej Kibrik, director of Institute of Linguistics, Russian Academy of Sciences, Dr. Boris Velichkovsky, corresponding member of the Russian Academy of Sciences, National Research Centre “Kurchatov Institute”, Dr. Alla Kirilina, Vice-rector for research of Moscow international academy, Dr. Valerii Demiankov, head of theoretical and applied linguistics department, Institute of Linguistics, Russian Academy of Sciences, and others.

The foreign colleagues represented the research centers of Paris, Munich, Budapest, Bejing. The list of foreign speakers included Dr. Ernst Pöppel, professor at the Human Science Center of the Ludwig-Maximilian-Universität in Munich, Dr. Saadi Lahlou, Chair in Social Psychology at the London School of Economics, Director of the Paris Institute for Advanced Study, Dr. Yan Bao, professor at the School of Psychological and Cognitive Sciences at the Bejing University and Dr. Tamas Gergely, Director of the Applied Logic Laboratory in Budapest.
