International Conference “Manipulation & Society: Language, Mind and Culture”

Russian State University for the Humanities and Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University will hold the 1st International conference on “Manipulation & Society: Language, Mind and Culture” which will take place at Immanuel Kant Baltic Federal University, Kaliningrad, Russia, 15-17 May, 2023.

The conference aims to bring linguists together with scholars from other fields concerned with manipulation, such as psychology, sociology, and media, information, cultural, and internet studies to examine manipulative strategies from new perspectives.

The topics include the following:

– Media manipulation and disinformation techniques
– Manipulation in computer-mediated communication
– Manipulative advertising and marketing
– Manipulation in literature: pragmatics and aesthetics
– Manipulation vs. influence: psychological and emotional dimensions
– Manipulation through translation and rewriting
– Cognitive aspects of verbal and non-verbal manipulation
– Manipulation and distortion of history
– The impacts of political manipulation: identifying risks and addressing challenges

To accommodate a wide range of participants from local and overseas, the conference will be held on campus and online.
